Italy blocking Australia jab exports understandable - PM

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Friday Italy's decision to block its exports of AstraZeneca PLC and Oxford University's vaccine against COVID-19 to his country was understandable as the European Union faces shortages in doses.

Morrison said that the mass vaccination program in "relatively COVID-free" Australia would not be affected by not receiving 250,000 shots from Italy.

Earlier this week, it was reported Rome was halting the shipments of AstraZeneca's vaccine to Australia to avoid further shortages in shots. Meanwhile, France indicated it might do the same.
