Japan consumer confidence rises in May

Japan's seasonally adjusted Consumer Confidence Index increased for the first time in 5 months rising by 2.4 points to land at 24 in May when compared to the figure seen in April, according to a report released on Friday by the country's Cabinet Office.

The overall livelihood index increased by 3.1 points to reach 25, while the income growth indicator added 1.5 points and ended at 27.8. The employment index rose by 1.8 points in the meantime to stand at 16.8, with the willingness to buy durable goods at 26.3, up by 3 points compared to the previous month's data.

The percentage of survey respondents who revealed they expect the prices to rise in the upcoming year increased by 1.6% in May, while 0.3 fewer percent of people claimed they see the prices dropping.
