Japan declares state of emergency due to COVID-19

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (pictured) declared a state of emergency in Tokyo, Osaka and five other prefectures in order to combat COVID-19.

According to the latest information, the emergency measures will be lifted as soon as it becomes clear that people's lives are no more in danger. The state of emergency is set to run from 7 April until 6 May.

Earlier today, Abe revealed the country's legislation for easing the COVID-19 impact will be worth ¥39 trillion ($357 billion).
