Japan's retail sales growth drops to 4.3% in October

Japan's retail sales rose by 4.3% on an annual basis in October, landing at ¥13.1 billion according to a preliminary report released on Tuesday by the country's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

The expansion in the sector, which was lower than expected, comes after last month's 4.8 percentage-point increase. On a monthly basis, the sales value improved by just 0.2%, after rising by 1.1% in September.

The total value of commercial sales amounted to ¥49.7 billion, with 5.9% more goods sold compared to October of 2021, as the seasonally adjusted value of sales in the wholesale industry landed at ¥36.6, up by 6.4% year-on-year.
