The Japanese government is considering scrapping on June 20 the state of emergency introduced in order to stop the spread of COVID-19, the Mainichi Shimbun reported on Thursday, citing a source within the cabinet.

The government is likely to leave certain measures in place, such as asking the hospitality venues to shorten their working hours, the outlet explained.

Country's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga predicted the day before that the vaccine rollout in the country will gain speed in the coming months, allowing all Japanese citizens to receive a jab by October.
