Japanese consumer confidence improves in January
Japan's seasonally adjusted Consumer Confidence Index increased in January when compared to the figure seen the previous month, rising by 0.7 points to land at 31.0, according to a report released on Tuesday by the country's Cabinet Office.
The overall livelihood index increased by 0.4 points from the previous month to reach 27.8, while the employment index marked a 2.2-point improvement, ending at 37.2. The income growth indicator increased by 0.5 points in the meantime to stand at 35.6, with the willingness to buy durable goods adding 0.2 to land at 23.5.
The percentage of survey respondents who revealed they expect the prices to rise in the upcoming year increased by 0.2% in the first month of 2023, while 2.5% fewer survey respondents saw the prices going down. In the meantime, the number of respondents who claimed they saw the prices remaining at the same level increased by 0.3% from the previous month.
