Japan's manufacturing PMI dips in May

Activity in Japan's manufacturing sector as measured by the Jibun Bank Japan Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index declined in May compared to the previous month, IHS Markit revealed in a preliminary report on Friday.

The headline manufacturing PMI was reported at 52.5 after reaching 53.6 in April. The decline comes amid a resurgence in coronavirus cases and accompanying state of emergency measures in Japan, according to the survey.

However, manufacturers remained "confident in taking on additional staff as job creation continued for the second successive month," the report noted.
