Japan's unemployment rate at 2.9% in June

Japan's unemployment rate landed at 2.9% on a monthly seasonally adjusted basis, according to a report by the nation's Statistics Bureau released Friday.

The figure went down by 0.1% when compared to the jobless rate seen in May, while the ratio of job openings to applicants increased to 1.13 on a monthly basis, marking a jump in the availability of jobs per applicant.

The majority of job losses occurred due to people quitting their jobs voluntarily, while the largest percentage of new employees was hired in the wholesale and retail trade industries.
