Jimmy Lai sentenced to 12 months in prison
Hong Kong publishing mogul Jimmy Lai (pictured) was sentenced to one year in prison, the court decided on Friday morning.
The founder of Apple Daily was sentenced with eight other political activists for organizing and participating in an unlawful assembly during a peaceful protest two years ago in Hong Kong. Martin Lee, leader of the Democratic Party in Hong Kong, got a suspended sentence of 11 months. The other seven that were charged got between eight and 18 months in prison.
Jimmy Lai faced eight different accounts, two of which were due to China's National Security Law, and was convicted on April 1.
