Johnson: New election would be mistake

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asserted on Wednesday that calling a new general election at the moment the United Kingdom is still fighting to curb the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's military operation in Ukraine would be a mistake.

Johnson's comment came as a response to Leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) in the House of Commons Ian Blackford's question if the prime minister would call new voting if he would not resign. Blackford also noted Johnson must come to terms he is "not the next prime minister" as "the public cannot put up with this farce of a government any longer."

Answering other calls to "take responsibility and resign" and "tell the truth" about the partygate case, Johnson reaffirmed his stance that "my job is to get on and deliver" and "to get the country through tough times [...] and that's what I'm gonna do."
