Johnson: No need to deviate from roadmap

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson asserted on Tuesday there was no need to deviate from the roadmap the country set out to fully lift restrictions on June 21.

Johnson made the comments during a visit to a vaccination center in London, saying that the government saw "nothing conclusive to say that we have to deviate from the road map," adding that the reason for it was "because we have built up such a wall of defenses with the vaccination program." However, he did urge people to stay cautious and noted that there will be a lot more information on the B.1.617 variant of COVID-19, or the Indian variant, in a few days' time.

Johnson's comments echo previous statements coming from Whitehall on the country's reopening, despite persistent fears that local lockdowns may be imminent if surges of the Indian variant continue.
