Johnson rules out full-scale lockdown

British Prime Minister Boris Jonson stated on Friday that a full-blown COVID-19 shutdown is not on the table at the moment, despite the recommendations from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies to implement Plan B.

"I've got to tell you at the moment that we see absolutely nothing to indicate that that is on the cards at all. [...] Our Autumn and Winter Plan always predicted cases would rise round about now and we're certainly seeing that in the numbers," Johnson noted.

The statement comes amid a spike in coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom with over 51,000 new positive tests reported in the last 24 hours. Health Secretary Sajid Javid had also warned the figure could reach 100,000 daily cases soon.
