Johnson says he won't resign after party scandal

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated on Wednesday that he won't resign from his post after reports of the so-called "partygate" scandal concerning a series of staff parties allegedly held in Whitehall and Downing Street that were in violation of lockdown rules that were still in place at the time.

Answering a question from a Liberal Democrat MP, Johnson said he had already apologized for "any mistakes that were made" and urged the parliament to wait for the report on the senior civil servant Sue Gray's investigation into the matter.

Several British media outlets have reported that over a dozen Johnson's Conservative MPs had submitted letters of no confidence in his leadership. Still, at least 54 of them have to submit similar letters for a secret vote to be initiated, where his opponents would need to get more than 50% of votes to remove him from the position of party leader.
