Johnson wins 5th round of Tory leadership elections

Boris Johnson (pictured), former foreign secretary of the United Kingdom, came on top in the fifth round of the Tory leadership contest on Thursday, winning 162 votes.

Johnson and Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who won the support of 77 MPs, will now face the party membership in a battle for Number Ten. Environment Secretary Michael Gove was eliminated from the race after getting 75 votes. According to Cheryl Gillan, the joint acting chair of the 1922 Committee, all 313 Tory MPs voted.

"I'm deeply honoured to have secured more than 50 per cent of the vote in the final ballot. Thank you to everyone for your support! I look forward to getting out across the UK and to set out my plan to deliver Brexit, unite our country, and create a brighter future for all of us," Johnson tweeted following the vote.
