Judge rules Manafort lied to FBI, Mueller, grand jury

United States District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled Paul Manafort lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the grand jury, violating the terms of his guilty plea. US President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman "intentionally made multiple false statements to the FBI, the OSC [Office of Special Counsel] and the grand jury concerning matters that were material to the investigation," the judge stated.

The ruling decided that Manafort lied in three out of five instances laid out in the case brought forward by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Jackson also ruled that Mueller "is no longer bound by its obligations under the plea agreement, including its promise to support a reduction of the offense level in the calculation of the US Sentencing Guidelines for acceptance of responsibility."

Manafort pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges last year and struck a deal with Mueller's office in a bid to receive a reduced sentence.
