Kherson official defends referendum plan

Kherson Military-Civilian Administration Deputy Head Kirill Stremousov defended on Sunday what he described as the region's right to hold a referendum and decide on which country it wants to be a part of.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, Stremousov urged Ukraine's government and military to stop shelling Kherson and "terrorizing the local population" before it is too late and to allow the citizens to fulfill their right to self-determination. "The Kiev regime is aware of this, therefore it is beating in agony. The Ukrainian Nazis will never set foot on our soil again," he remarked.

Earlier this month, while talking about the region's plan to hold a referendum on joining Russia, Stremousov said that Kherson is "historically Russian land, it being part of Ukraine was historical a bug that will be fixed in the near future."
