Kim Jong-un vows to tackle food shortages

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un vowed to deal with the difficulties facing his country in recent months after admitting to a "tense" food shortage earlier this week.

According to North Korean state media, Kim "solemnly swore on behalf of the WPK Central Committee that the Party will surely break through head-on the difficulties lying in the way of the revolution" as he wrapped up a Workers' Party meeting in Pyongyang. The country's Supreme Leader also touched on relations with the United States during the four-day meeting, stating that North Korea is ready for both dialogue and confrontation with the Biden administration.

Meanwhile, the new US special representative for North Korea, Sung Kim, arrived in Seoul for a trilateral meeting with South Korean and Japanese officials on achieving denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
