Kishida says Japan still wants peace treaty with Russia
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Tuesday expressed his country's desire to conclude a World War II peace treaty with Russia, according to the TASS news agency.
The prime minister argued it is "regrettable" the two countries have not yet agreed to sign peace 77 years after the war ended. Kishida acknowledged the rocky relations between Tokyo and Moscow, noting, however, that the Japanese government is still "determined to resolve the territorial issue."
Moscow previously decided to scrap the treaty talks with Japan over the country coordinating its response to the Ukraine-Russia conflict with the US and the EU.
