Kremlin hits back at gold ban, default reports

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Russia will sell its gold to markets where it is "more in demand" and countries with "more legitimate economic regimes." He reacted to a ban on Russian gold imports announced by the G7 at its summit currently underway in Germany.

Peskov also rejected media reports that Russia is defaulting on its debt after missing a deadline on Sunday. He stated a bond payment in foreign currency was made in May but that it is "not our problem" that Euroclear did not forward the funds to the creditors.
