Kremlin says West's arms supply leads to 'escalation'

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov underscored on Monday that the situation in Ukraine could escalate as a result of the Western nations' weapons supply to Kiev, with more NATO members becoming "directly involved" in the conflict.

"Ukraine demands more and more new weapons. The West encourages these demands and pledges its readiness to provide these weapons. The situation is deadlocked," Peskov stated, but added that the Russian military operation "will continue."

Last week, the United States and Germany confirmed the delivery of tanks to Kiev, but Berlin stressed the country will not be deploying fighter jets and ground troops to Kiev. Ukrainian tank crews arrived to the United Kingdom over the weekend for training on how to operate Challenger 2 tanks.
