Kuleba: China carefully considering Xi's visit
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Thursday that China's response to Ukraine's request for a telephone call or a visit by President Xi Jinping was that "they are carefully examining the request." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier this month that he wants to talk to Xi.
Kuleba said China is currently "making up its mind" on whether to keep the same attitude on the war in Ukraine or "step up its involvement in the conflict settlement process." He claimed that one of the key reasons Xi visited Russia was to "test the ground" and see if Russia is ready to change its stance. "The announcement by President Putin about the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus may be considered as an indicator that this conversation with the Chinese leader did not go well for him," Kuleba suggested.
