Kvitova beats Collins to book final spot

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova beat unseeded Danielle Collins 7-6, 6-0 on Thursday to advance to the final of the Australian Open.

In sweltering conditions at the Rod Laver arena, Kvitova had to dig deep to win a hard-fought first set, during which the arena's roof was closed at one point owing to the extreme heat. She then won the second in empathic fashion to reach her first Australian Open final and her first Grand Slam final since being stabbed in the hand during a 2016 home invasion.

Kvitova will face the winner of the match between Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova, which is being played later today.
