Lai charged with breaking HK national security law

Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai was charged with breaching the Hong Kong national security law, local media reported on Friday.

Lai is being accused of colluding with foreign actors and putting national security in danger. If convicted, he could go to prison for life.

The media mogul who owns the pro-democracy Apple Daily was first arrested in August. At the time, the United States and the United Kingdom strongly criticized China for the arrest.
