Lavrov: Europe doesn't want US missiles back on continent

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Friday that "no one" in Europe wants a return of intermediate and short-range missiles on the continent, which was the reason the United States and the Soviet Union signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty thirty years ago.

Regarding Washington's withdrawal from the landmark treaty, Lavrov said that Moscow will respond in a "tit-for-tat manner." However, he said that Russia will not deploy missiles in the regions where there are no similar US-made systems.

On February 1, the US officially announced the start of its withdrawal from the INF Treaty, citing Russia's longstanding violations of the agreement. More than a month later, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to suspend his country's participation in the treaty.
