Lavrov: Russia has not tampered with Douma site

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed on Monday allegations his country tampered with the site of a suspected chemical weapons attack in Douma. "I can guarantee that Russia has not tampered with the site," Lavrov told the BBC, adding that in fact no toxic gas attack took place in the suburb of Damascus, but a "staged thing."

Earlier, Russian ambassador to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Alexander Shulgin accused the United Kingdom of staging the attack in Syria with the support of the United States, highlighting that Russia has "irrefutable" evidence to support these claims. Meanwhile, the US warned the chemical weapons watchdog that Russia may have tampered with the site in Douma in order to cover up the use of toxic gas in the area.
