Lavrov: We will not allow our interests to be ignored

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday that Moscow "does not want wars" but that it "will not allow our interests to be rudely attacked, we will not allow our interests to be ignored." He repeated the lack of a clear response from the United States on Russia's security proposals "cast a shadow on negotiations," but added there has been some progress on "secondary issues," including on short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

In an interview with major Russian radio stations, Lavrov said various options are being considered on how to move forward, but the decision lies with President Vladimir Putin. "If attempts to agree on mutually acceptable principles for ensuring security in Europe do not produce results, then we will take retaliatory measures," he said, explaining the Russian military will present a number of proposals.
