Le Pen 'strongly condemns' US attack on Syria

French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen “strongly” condemned on Friday the United States military strikes on a Syrian airbase in the Homs province and called the actions “terrible.”

Le Pen claimed the US should have “waited for the results of an international investigation” to determine whether the Syrian government used chemical weapons in an attack earlier in this week before attacking the Middle Eastern country.

She also claimed President Bashar al-Assad should not be overthrown unless it is the wish of the Syrian people. “We should allow democracy and the Syrian people to speak out. It’s they who should choose their leader,” Le Pen noted.

National Front leader Le Pen is the favorite to win the first round of the presidential election in France with 24.5%, according to the latest Ifop poll for Paris Match. However, she is seen losing the second round of the vote to centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron who is backed to beat her in the head-to-head battle with 60% to 40%.
