Libya's UN-backed govt says it's able to protect Tripoli

Forces loyal to Libya's internationally-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) are able to protect Tripoli and stop the offensive launched by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) against the nation's capital, GNA's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq (pictured left) stated on Tuesday.

During a press conference in Rome following his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Maiteeq noted that the situation around Tripoli has improved significantly in favor of the GNA since Haftar launched his attack two weeks ago. He went on to describe Haftar's march on Tripoli as "an invasion" and an "attack on the legitimate government." He also spoke in favor of setting up a no-fly zone in Libya due to the latest escalation of violence in the North African country.
