London looks to tighten containment measures - Khan

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Monday the British capital is likely to see additional measures in an effort to stop the spreading of the coronavirus. Earlier today, he met with public health experts and the city's council leaders to "agree on a new London plan."

"We will collectively be asking the government to implement this plan as soon as possible and I will be discussing it with the prime minister tomorrow morning," he stressed, adding the pandemic is advancing at an "accelerating speed" due to the "uncertainty" caused by lack of COVID-19 tests.

Previously, British media reported that United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce new lockdown measures in the country's most-affected regions that could see pubs, bars and restaurants completely shut. Johnson will chair the COBRA emergency meeting on Tuesday ahead of the potential announcement on the next steps in the UK's fight against the pandemic.
