Lübeck attacker identified as dual German-Iranian citizen

Local police department in the German city of Lübeck said on Friday that they identified the suspected knife attacker from earlier in the day to be a 34-year-old holding both Iranian and German citizenship. According to witnesses, he set fire to his backpack which contained flammable substances before starting to stab the passengers on the local bus with a kitchen knife. Five persons of total 14 that were injured were hospitalized.

The individual, who is a local resident but was born in Iran, is being charged with arson, dangerous bodily injury and personal injury. The police stated that they found no history or indications of radicalism in the person's background. Local public prosecutor will file a request with the District Court of Lübeck for the detention of the suspected perpetrator.
