Lukashenko: Patience key to solving Karabakh row
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to increase efforts toward a mutually acceptable solution to their ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. Lukashenko delivered his remarks at the CSTO meeting held on Thursday. "Patience and efforts to find a resolution beneficial to both Armenia and Azerbaijan are required," the Belarusian president said.
Last month, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that signing a peace treaty with Armenia is "inevitable" and emphasized that Baku is committed to making efforts towards a peace agreement. The negotiations with Armenia should bring "long-term peace to the Caucasus," he said in late May.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, meanwhile, indicated that Yerevan is prepared to recognize the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, provided that the rights and security of Armenians in the region are also addressed.
