Macron vows to cut income tax in wake of Yellow Vest protests

French President Emmanuel Macron vowed on Thursday to make significant cuts to income taxes for middle-class workers, as part of his response to the Yellow Vest protests that have been raging across the country in the past five months. During a news conference at the Elysee Palace, Macron noited that the measure will be financed through cuts in public spending and raising the retirement age limit.

Among other planned "transformations" in France, Macron cited a reduction in the number of lawmakers in parliament in order to make it "more efficient." He also pledged to make changes to the country's voting system so that it allows better representation of smaller parties. He also promised to simplify rules to make it easier for citizens to propose national referendums.
