Matt Hancock backs Johnson in Tory race

United Kingdom Health Secretary Matt Hancock (pictured) announced he will support Boris Johnson in his bid to become the UK's next prime minister and the leader of the Conservative Party. Hancock, who withdrew his own nomination for the positions, wrote in the Sunday Times that Johnson is "almost certainly going to be our next prime minister" and will be able to "deliver Brexit and then unite the country behind an open, ambitious, forward-looking agenda, delivered with the energy that gets stuff done."

Hancock stated that he "has been reassured" that Johnson's leadership will be "pro-business, pro-enterprise, supportive of the aspirational and the international." He also stressed that he believes the UK should leave the European Union with a deal and that Johnson "has the unique personality to bring the party together behind a Brexit deal."
