Matt Pottinger picked as Deputy National Security Advisor

Matt Pottinger (pictured) will be the Deputy National Security Advisor, President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien announced, confirming earlier reports.

Pottinger has been National Security Council's director for East Asia policy since January 2017. Previously, he joined the Marine Corps in 2005, after working as a journalist for the Wall Street Journal and Reuters.

Trump appointed O'Brien as the new National Security Advisor after firing John Bolton over his hawkish stances towards North Korea and other countries.
