McCarthy willing to 'play into overtime' on stopgap bill

United States House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said on Thursday that he is willing to "play into overtime" and work over the weekend to prevent the government shutdown set for October 1. However, he once again dismissed the stopgap bill proposed by the Democrat-controlled Senate, stating that it "does nothing to deal with the border security," an issue conservative Republicans in the House insist on.

McCarthy argued that border security is a bipartisan issue in an interview with CNBC, saying that this negotiation is an opportunity to "deal with the border, deal with our funding, and put us on a path that this country is stronger." He struck an upbeat tone, saying that "at the end of the day, we will get this done."
