McConnell: Inconceivable for Senate to vote to remove Trump

Republican United States Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday that it is "inconceivable" President Donald Trump will be removed from office as he cannot imagine 67 senators voting to oust the president.

A total of 67 need to vote in favor of removing the president from office. However, the Senate only votes on such a motion, de facto holding a trial, if the House of Representatives impeaches the head of state.

The Republicans have 53 senators, Democrats have 45 and another 2 members of the upper house of Congress are independents.
