Medvedev: Sanctions on Russia could last for decades

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev remarked on Friday that the sanctions imposed on his country over its military intervention in Ukraine could last for a long time, even for decades.

Speaking at an interinstitutional meeting dedicated to the idea of forming a new body that would prevent the spread of new infective diseases, Medvedev claimed the sanctions have "nothing to do with the special military operation. [...] It is obvious that these sanctions will have a prolonged effect, as it was with the previous ones, including those in the Soviet years. [...] Therefore, we must rely only on our own capabilities."

Earlier this month, Medvedev stated the measures taken against Moscow could lead to a new monetary crisis and a "full-fledged international food crisis."
