Medvedev: Ukraine to make nukes if it joins NATO
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev claimed on Thursday that Ukraine will start producing nuclear weapons if it joins NATO, reminding that the country "had its own nuclear weapons complex" in the past. He also predicted that Ukraine could "begin a large-scale operation" against Russia once it joins the bloc.
Medvedev reiterated the position that Ukraine is part of Russia but that "due to geopolitical reasons and history" there are currently "fictitious borders" between the two. He told Russian media that relations with the West will be restored "sooner or later" but that currently Western nations are not interested in an "equal partnership" with Moscow because they "need to dominate based on their own ideas."
