Melbourne knife attack treated as terrorism - police

The knife attack which claimed the life of at least one person in Melbourne earlier today is now treated as a case of terrorism, the Australian police confirmed on Friday after they found gas bottles in the suspect's vehicle.

According to early reports, a man driving a blue dual-cab vehicle mounted the footpath on Melbourne's Bourke Street (pictured) and attacked three people with a knife after setting his car on fire. The assault killed one person and left two more in a critical condition. The attacker has been shot and arrested by the police. The authorities believe that the attack could have copy-cat motives as it comes amid the murder trial of James Gargasoulas, who killed six people in the same street back in January 2017.
