Meta's WhatsApp introduces Channels
Meta Platfoms Inc.'s WhatsApp introduced on Thursday in a blog post Channels, a one-way broadcast tool, where admins can share text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls.
It is "a simple, reliable, and private way to receive important updates from people and organizations," WhatsApp stated. The feature will be built in a new tab called Updates, where users will be able to find "Status" as well as channels they chose to follow, "separate from chats with family, friends, and communities."
The privacy of both admins and followers will be protected, as neither will have access to the other's phone numbers. Admins will also be able to choose who follows the channel, as well as to block screenshots. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared that the feature will first be made available in Colombia and Singapore, while it will "roll out to everyone" later in the year.
