Mexico's FM to hold talks with Pompeo on June 5

Minister of foreign affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard (pictured), said he was visiting Washington DC where he plans to engage in talks next Wednesday with United States counterpart, Mike Pompeo, in an attempt to resolve the recent tariff dispute.

The Mexican delegation "will be firm and defend the dignity of Mexico," the diplomat wrote on Twitter. He explained that preparations for the talks, as well as discussions with Mexico's allies, made it necessary to leave for Washington on Friday. Ebrard also noted that before he boarded the flight to the US capital, he had a call with Pompeo and Jared Kushner, president Donald Trump's senior advisor.

On Thursday, Trump announced a 5% tariff on all Mexican goods will go into force on June 10 unless illegal immigration from the southern neighbor is stopped. The duties would increase gradually if no progress is made on the issue, according to the president's idea.
