Miami-Dade reclosing over spike in COVID-19 cases

Miami-Dade County will reclose restaurants, banquet facilities, ballrooms, short-term rentals and fitness centers in an attempt to curb the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Carlos Gimenez said on Monday as he announced issuing an emergency order for the region. The closures will start on July 8. Additionally, the 10 pm to 6 am curfew in Miami-Dade County will remain in place.

Restaurants will be allowed to offer takeout and delivery services, despite the closures. Meanwhile, beaches will reopen on July 7.

Miami-Dade remains one of the most hit counties in Florida by the coronavirus as it confirmed 1,981 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Earlier, the Florida Department of Health said there were 6,336 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of registered COVID-19 cases in Florida to 206,447.
