Minister: UK to make its own decision on Huawei equipment

British Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Jeremy Wright (pictured) said on Thursday that the United Kingdom will decide independently if it will include Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. equipment in its 5G network. In an interview for CNBC, Wright stated that the government will make a decision on this issue after a security review, but indicated that the UK won't rely on a single company its telecommunication infrastructure.

Media earlier reported that the UK will not exclude Huawei from the construction of its fifth generation wireless network (5G), despite warnings that it could threaten national security. Chinese tech giant hailed this decision, as the UK Prime Minister Theresa May fired Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson over the leak.

Yesterday, United States President Donald Trump placed Huawei and its affiliated companies on a trade blacklist, after he declared a national emergency in order to protect US information and communications technology from foreign espionage.
