Mnuchin: Tariffs set for next week are suspended

Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin said on Friday that the United States decided not to implement import duties scheduled for October 15 for merchandise from China. He added he would analyze the possibility to take the other country off the list of currency manipulators and revealed there were discussions with Yi Gang, who heads the People's Bank of China.

US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer asserted "an elaborate consultation process" would be established for the enforcement of agreed measures. He added Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. wasn't included in the high-level round of talks. Turning to tariffs set to be rolled out in December, he revealed the plan remains in place.

The US side failed to provide details about the developments in the area of the protection of intellectual property but President Donald Trump said the segment is "mostly done."
