Modi to skip G7 summit in June amid COVID crisis in India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the Group of Seven's (G7) next summit in June due to the serious situation concerning COVID-19 in his country, the government confirmed on Tuesday.

India keeps reporting exceedingly high numbers of new cases of coronavirus and disease-related deaths in the past few weeks. In the previous 24 hours, it saw a daily rise in infections of 329,942 and in fatalities of 3,876.

Earlier this month, two members of the Indian delegation that attended the G7's meeting in London tested positive for coronavirus.
