Moscow cannot fight NATO expansion alone - Lukashenko

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated Russia should not fight alone against the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) during the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit in Moscow on Monday.

Lukashenko explained that CSTO member countries need to strengthen their "political interaction and coordination," emphasizing that the organization must respond politically to "a new wave of NATO expansion" as Russia should not be the only one fighting against the alliance's enlargement. The Belarusian president underlined that no country poses threat to the North Atlantic bloc, while the alliance continues to strengthen its military presence in Eastern Europe and conduct large-scale exercises.

During the summit, Lukashenko accused the West of "undermining" the stability in the post-Soviet region, increasing pressures on Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Armenia. In addition to this, Finnish and Swedish authorities have confirmed the two countries will apply for NATO membership this week, breaking their long-term military neutrality.
