Moscow denies deporting Ukrainians to Russia

The Russian Embassy to the United States denied accusations that the Russian military is forcibly deporting Ukrainian citizens from the besieged port city of Mariupol to Russia.

The news comes after the Mariupol mayor's office accused the country of escorting the city's residents out of the country from the so-called filtration camps, where their documents and phones are confiscated before their departure.

The embassy said the enclosures were established to hinder potential "diversion operations" and allow the troops to "carefully inspect motor vehicles heading to safe regions."
