Moscow: US, NATO troops nearing Russian border

The United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are moving 40,000 servicemen and 15,000 units of weapons and other military equipment from other territories in Europe to Russia's border, the latter country's Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu (pictured) claimed on Tuesday.

"The main forces are concentrated in the Black Sea and the Baltic region," Shoigu said. "Every year in Europe, the alliance conducts up to 40 major operational training events that have a clear anti-Russian focus."

His comments come shortly after NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg described the alleged gathering of Russian troops at the Ukrainian border as "unfounded and inexplicable." Earlier, the Kremlin remarked Moscow was free to locate its troops at its own discretion within its own country.
