Myanmar junta excluded from ASEAN summit

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) announced on Saturday that it will invite a non-political representative from Myanmar to the group's summit set to be held later this month.

The move means that Min Aung Hlaing (pictured), the head of the Myanmar military, will be excluded from the leader's meeting. An ASEAN representative said that the ban is a result of the Myanmar government's failure to implement a previously agreed road map to end the country's post-coup violence.

In a response to the decision, the junta blamed "foreign intervention" for the ban.
