North Korea's 1st satellite launch attempt fails

The launch of a North Korean military reconnaissance satellite, which triggered alerts across Seoul on Wednesday, was not successful, state-owned Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) announced.

According to the news outlet, after the separation of the first stage, the rocket experienced an engine problem, causing it to fall into the Yellow Sea. "The new satellite vehicle rocket, Chollima-1, crashed into the West Sea as it lost propulsion due to an abnormal startup of the engine on the 2nd stage after the 1st stage was separated during normal flight," KCNA said.

Pyongyang reportedly intends to attempt a second satellite launch in the near future, after investigating the cause of the engine issue and taking necessary measures to address it.
